Cotton price continued to soften recently and most mills stopped purchasing. Traded price for low-grade cotton declined to 14200-14400yuan/mt while value for high-grade cotton stabilized at 14500-14700yuan/mt.
Most cotton enterprises intended to stock up till spring festival while some mills were active to purchase customs clearance foreign cotton, especially the Indian cotton. Offer for customs clearance Indian cotton was 15000yuan/mt (net weight, ex-warehouse). However, volume for customs clearance U.S. cotton was less and offer for M 1-1/8 U.S. cotton was 15200yuan/mt (net weight, ex-warehouse).
Import cotton
CIF offer for foreign cotton continued to soften today. Offer for U.S. cotton and Brazil cotton dropped by 0.10-0.15cent/lb, but the others’ offer stabilizes.
More foreign cotton arrived at warehouse recently. Price for Uzbekistan SM 1-1/8 cotton (equal to type 229) was 78.10cent/lb (equal to 14200yuan/mt under sliding scale duty), which had 1000-1500yuan/mt price advantage over Xinjiang cotton. Mills were waiting for allocation of sliding scale duty quotas.
